Can anyone recommend an anti-dandruff shampoo for bleached hair?

As most anti dandruff shampoos strip coloured/bleached hair. Can anyone recommend an anti-dandruff shampoo for bleached hair?
First of all are you sure you have dandruff?

Real dandruff is greasy and ball shaped.

If you have dry flakes it's actually a dry scalp in this case try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree products these are great for problem scalps, but they are very stimulating and tingly in the scalp. Failing that try a very mild gentle moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Make sure you get some of the conditioner on the scalp too.

Head and Shoulders will not solve the problem, just cover it up.Can anyone recommend an anti-dandruff shampoo for bleached hair?
can strip blond hair it already has been there are some head and shoulders for coloured hair some people swear by putting an aspirin in the shampoo to cure dandruff jennifer aniston does this
Head %26amp; Shoulder....
Oilatum is a good one, it won't leave your hair dry and straw like, the way most do.
Have you tried head %26amp; shoulders.
You can prevent dandruff using many cheap and effective home remedies. Warm coconut oil, lemon juice, apple cidar vinegar are other home remedies at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/dandruff.htm鈥?/a> will prevent further problems.
Pantene Pro V Classic Care True Confidence Anti-Dandruff Shampoo is really good used with the same conditioner.

:-)
are you sure you do not have a sensitive scalp, for years my boyfriend used all different anti dandruff shampoos but still had a flaky scalp.then someone i know told me to get him johnsons baby shampoo and he has never suffered from dandruff since xxx
get any of your favorite shampoo and go to your health food store or GNC and buy 100% pure tea tree oil.. add about 2 or 3 drops (its really strong stuff) to your fav shampoo, give it a good shake, and shampoo as usual..
Selsun Blue is a really good product for me. My hair is curly and kinda dry and it helps.
head and shoulders is cheap and good...i dye my hair or bleach it rather and even if you get the non colour one it doesnt take any color away! or rub oil baby oil etc etc into your head and then have a shower this will give your scalp more mosture and this will help defete dandruff

good luck x
use the shampoo blonde from john frida it really moisturizes your hair and it is for blonde color treated hair.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080301213625AAwzOku%26amp;cp=2Is it in anyway unhealthy to use dandruff shampoo everyday?
washing hair everyday in general dries out your hair... which in turn most likely would dry out your scalp, which in turn then causes dandruff... wash your hair every two days but take a shower everyday if u want... just wear a haircap...Is it in anyway unhealthy to use dandruff shampoo everyday?
read the bottle or else i think its okay to use it every alternate day
Hair doesn't need to be washed every day but if you insist of washing your hair each day an anti-dandruff shampoo such as head and shoulders can be used daily Tar based shampoos might be too harsh they could be used every second day
    its really good

healthy hair comes from healthy scalpes.

i wash my hair every day and its ahmazingly shinny

    and plus i dye it

    its safe to do.
If you shouldnt use it for a prolonged period it would say on bottle,

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of dandruff besides using dandruff shampoo?

The only treatment that doesn't require shampooing or using medication from a dermatologist may be shaving one's head bald. This is an extreme treatment for dandruff, but all the the bald people I know don't seem to suffer from dandruff.

    Dandruff

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dandruff (also called scurf and historically termed Pityriasis capitis) is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. As it is normal for skin cells to die and flake off, a small amount of flaking is normal and in fact quite common. Some people, however, either chronically or as a result of certain triggers, experience an unusually large amount of flaking, which can also be accompanied by redness and irritation. Most cases of dandruff can be easily treated with specialized shampoos. Simple dandruff does not cause hair loss.

Excessive flaking can also be a symptom of seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal infection or excoriation associated with infestation of head lice. Dandruff is a global phenomenon and many people find that dandruff can cause social or self-esteem problems. Treatment can be important for purely social reasons.

    [edit] Causes

As the epidermal layer continually replaces itself, cells are pushed outward where they eventually die and flake off. In most people, these flakes of skin are too small to be visible. However, certain conditions cause cell turnover to be unusually rapid, especially in the scalp. For people with dandruff, skin cells may mature and be shed in 2 - 7 days, as opposed to around a month in people without dandruff. The result is that dead skin cells are shed in large, oily clumps, which appear as white or grayish patches on the scalp and clothes.

Dandruff has been shown to be the result of three required factors:

    1. Skin oil commonly referred to as sebum or sebaceous secretions;

    2. The metabolic by-products of skin micro-organisms (most specifically Malassezia yeasts);

    3. an individual susceptibility.

Common older literature cites the fungus Malassezia furfur (previously known as Pityrosporum ovale) as the cause of dandruff. While this fungus is found naturally on the skin surface of both healthy people and those with dandruff, it has recently been shown that a scalp specific fungus, Malassezi Globosa, is the responsible agent. This fungus metabolizes triglycerides present in sebum by the expression of lipase, resulting in a lipid byproduct oleic acid (OA). Penetration by OA of the top layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, results in an inflammatory response which disturbs homeostasis and results in erratic cleavage of straum corneum cells.

Rarely, dandruff can be a manifestation of an allergic reaction to chemicals in hair gels/sprays, hair oils, or sometimes even dandruff medications like Ketoconazole.

There is no convincing evidence that food (such as sugar or yeast), excessive perspiration, or climate have any role in the pathogenesis of dandruff.

There have been many strategies for the control of dandruff. Simply increasing shampooing will remove flakes. However, elimination of the fungus results in dramatic improvement. Regular shampooing with an anti-fungal product will not only treat but prevent recurrence.

Sitting next to Alex Logan can also cause dandruff.

    [edit] Seborrheic dermatitis

Flaking is a symptom of seborrheic dermatitis. Joseph Bark notes that ';Redness and itching is actually seborrheic dermatitis, and it frequently occurs around the folds of the nose and the eyebrow areas, not just the scalp.'; Dry, thick, well-defined lesions consisting of large, silvery scales may be traced to the less common psoriasis of the scalp.

Seasonal changes, stress, and immuno-suppression seem to affect seborrheic dermatitis.

    [edit] Treatment

Severe forms of flaking if accompanied by flaking or scaling on other parts of the body, might best be treated by a dermatologist.

Head %26amp; Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredient Zinc pyrithione. [citation needed]

Nizoral Shampoo anti-fungal/anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredient Ketoconazole.

Selsun Blue anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredient Selenium sulfide.

The antifungal properties of Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Oil) have been reported as useful in the treatment of dandruff. [1] [2] [3]

Washing hair with rubbing alcohol gets rid of the dandruff and leaves hair feeling soft and clean. [citation needed]

Tar containing shampoos are also used for treatment of dandruff. [4]

Apple Cider Vinegar helps destroy the bacteria that causes Dandruff thus, eliminating your dandruff. [citation needed]

    [edit] Misconceptions

Dandruff is sometimes confused with dried shampoo. This usually occurs when hair isn't rinsed properly.

Dandruff is not an organism like lice; it is just dead skin that accumulates in the scalp.

Dandruff is unlikely to be the cause of hair loss.

dye your hair. that always kills it for my friend.
Drink water (if it's just an issue of dry skin)

or see a doctor. Some causes of dandruff are actually skin diseases or skin conditions that need to be treated with medication.
If your drandruff is caused by dehydration -- very common in cold winter months when indoor heat tends to be dry heat -- then drinking a lot of water (64 oz. or more per day) can help. If it is caused by something else -- high stress, allergy or medical condition, any number of other things -- I encourage you to consult a doctor for professionally-recommended treatment. You also might want to talk to a professional hair stylist about any products you may use on your hair -- s/he may be able to suggest others which would suit your needs better.

Dandruff Shampoo and Regular Shampoo & Conditioner question?

I have dandruff and regular hair problems (frizz).

So do I use the dandruff shampoo and the frizz conditioner one day every other day?

Or do I shampoo with the dandruff shampoo, then the frizz shampoo, then the frizz conditioner?Dandruff Shampoo and Regular Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner question?
    Here's my suggestion

Shampoo with the dandruff shampoo, but most importantly, make sure you massage it into your scalp and let it rest on your hair/scalp for 3 minutes or so.

    Rinse.

Repeat your 2nd shampoo application with the anti-frizz shampoo. Just a quick shampoo will work.

    Rinse.

Apply the anti-frizz conditioner. Let it sit on your hair 2 - 3 minutes.

    Rinse

Style your hair and use and anti-frizz styling product.

read the ingredients list on the label. Try a different shampoo with different active ingredient. Some stores like wal-mart, target, etc

have sample size bottles (not free, but inexpensive) enough so you can tell if it is going to be effective. For long time use try to alternate different shampoos. If there is still a serious problem it might be some type of scalp problem besides regular dandruff. Try regular sanitizing combs, brushes etc in alcohol (let dry before use) to prevent re infection.
Dandruff can be caused by dry scalp, eczema, or a certain kind of yeast (not the same yeast as the kind that causes problems for women on the other end of their bodies, though). If you really have problem dandruff, you should go to a dermatologist who will help figure out what is causing it. You could try a shampoo that has Nizoral in it. The shampoo used to be by prescription but I think it is an over the counter product now. This will help if the dandruff is caused by a yeast.

i use redken dandruff shampoo and it works sooooooo good

you really have to like scrub your head and then leave the shampoo in for 3 minutes

you still have a tiny bit of dandruff

butt it works better then head and sholders and the other kinds

    trust me
Hot water thing is a myth, dandruff is caused by a fungus, not just dryness. You can try Paul Mitchell's Dandruff shampoo w/ tea tree oil in the green bottle it worked for me.
all you have to do is buy any kind of moisturizer.

limit washing your hair to twice a week.

and they best kind of moisturizer i would say

is LANDERS PINK OIL HAIR MOISTURIZER.

    it really works.
Contact me goodnitedandruff at gmail dot com and I will send you and even pay the postage on a bottle of cream that really works well.
message your scalp with your finger tips while washing given time you will have no more dandruff.

Duh when the shampoo is gone it is gone.Do i keep using dandruff shampoo after the shampoo is gone?
    first, buy more shampoo

    keep using it.
I would say that you should continue to use the dandruff shampoo like twice a week, and use your other shampoo on the other days. If the dandruff starts to come back, then resume using it daily again.

To my knowledge, I don't believe so. I have used some dandruff shampoo before and it has not stunt my hair growth at all. Hope that helped. :)Will perscription dandruff shampoo stop hair growth?
To my knowledge, no. Dandruff shampoos (prescribed or not) are supposed to improve the scalp, and by improving the scalp, your hair should grow longer/faster. If anything, it will make it grow.

    Hope i helped :)
No. Hair growth is about one cm per month and a biological process that cannot be stopped.

Are you sure you have dandruff? A lot of people confuse dandruff with a dry scalp. If you have dandruff, I'd recommend dandruff shampoos by Nioxin (works really well) and Kenra (never used it, but I've heard good things and it smells wonderful.) Is dandruff shampoo safe for color-treated hair?

I have the T-Gel stuff and was wondering if this would discolor my highlights. If it does is there anything else to use?Is dandruff shampoo safe for color-treated hair?
I have been told that dandruff shampoo does discolor the hair but they do make special ones for color treated hair. I know Head and Shoulders has one for colored hair.Is dandruff shampoo safe for color-treated hair?
    yes head and sholders is
The dandruff shampoo won't affect your highlights but if you have color in your hair it would fade the color. So you don't have anything to worry about. But if you are still woried about it redkin has a dandruf shampoo called solve the can be used on chemically treated hair. :-D
I have used anti-dandruff shampoos on my hair and haven't had trouble with any fading.
look at the bottle. usually it says something like great fr colour treated hair ! on the side of the bottle. if its safe to use.

i used to hav e dandruff and it worked perfectly!
I use Head and Shoulders Intensive Therapy shampoo. It's in a blue bottle...it has a different active ingredient than the other Head And Shoulders shampoo and I've found that it works pretty well.

    so...i guess that one!!!
Hi, I am a hair dresser. I recommend Neutrogena. I know they have 2 dandruff shampoos, but maybe more. You need conditioner to make your hair silky again after your shampoo has dried it out, that i what it is for. Find a conditioner that is anti-poof or anti-frizz. You should also stay conditioned between hair washes. Use a daily conditioner and condition wen you use styling tools. You may also want to use a lite oil sheen or hair oil before you blow-dry to moisten your scalp. Hope this helps!
head and shoulders has many diffrent types of dandruff controll use extensive care its the best

im not really sure but i heard ar school that head and shoulders is a pretty good one.

    maybe Denorex
    I swear by this and although its not an expensive brand- it works wonders- Head and Shoulders SLEEK AND SHINE! YES, H%26amp;S makes all different formulas and one (its pink) is called sleek and shine and really tames dried, processed hair while making the dandruff go away. They all come with conditioner in the shampoo but I like to use another conditioner afterwards to really make my hair shiny,soft with NO FRIZZ%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;
    head and shoulders
how long have you used selsum blue? Maybe is not long enough but I think is preety good, I that there is s prescription one that is called sellenium,
    Head %26amp; Shoulders. Thats it.
garnier fructis is a good shampoo, but for dandruff and to prevent split ends this shampoo and conditioner works

    ';Paul Mitchell';
Head and Shoulders is pretty good..and it works really well.
Head and shoulders. Never use a shampoo with DEA, it can cause brain cancer.
I am sorry. I was going to suggest selson blue but, just notesed your allergic! I'd check and see if dove shampooh carried a dandruff form. Dove works very well. and , they do carry an off brand of head and shoulders it may work for you. good luck! hope you find something

Dandruff is a fungus like athlete's' foot. Dandruff shampoos are designed to treat it, but no dandruff shampoo alone will get rid of it.

To cure dandruff you need to get several different brands of dandruff shampoo and use them together. (I used head and shoulders, selson blue, and T-Gel). Wash your hair every day for a couple of weeks with a different shampoo each day. After a couple of weeks, than wash your hair about once or twice a week with different kinds of shampoos.

After about 6 weeks your dandruff will clear up completely, and you want need a dandruff shampoo.

Not necessary. As a matter of fact my brother uses Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo for his dandruff and its not blue. Why is dandruff shampoo always blue?
    It's medicated.
That's a good cute question. Maybe because when you wear black ';even a little dandruff shows'; and they want to appeal to both men and women so they use a blue bottle.
The stuff I use now is not blue (Equate).
    cause its pretty, lol
Dandruff shampoo is not always blue. It just depends.

Most of the time it has to do with the additives etc. They turn the shampoo and odd colour.. blue is more attractive.

I love doing this once a week:

-Shampoo hair (or I guess you can just use water)

-Massage aloe vera gel onto the scalp, trying to avoid most of the hair

-Pour warm olive oil onto the scalp, letting it run down the ends of your hair(it's easiest to do all of this over a large sink or tub)

-Use saran wrap (plastic wrap) to cover your entire scalp and hair

-Place a shower cap over the plastic wrap then for extra insulation wrap a towel around the cap

    -Leave in for 20-40 minutes

-Don't shampoo after this, just rinse

-Use a conditioner if you want

I've always had a problem with dandruff and what finally worked for me was tea tree oil. You can add it to any shampoo. 10 or 20 drops or so and mix it all together, try that and see if it works.
I used to use baby oil. I would massage my scalp with it and then shampoo it out. Now I use Neutrogea T Sal. It's amazing, but since you said you didn't want any dandruff shampoo I guess try the baby oil.

No don't use dandruff shampoo! It stinks and that is the good kind! Use a shower cap and olive oil. It may sound gross but it works. Pour olive oil into a shower cap then put your head in it. It really works. Just wash your hair in the morning.
Head and Shoulders works miracles. Even after your dandruff is gone it still is great to use because it works from the scalp up. Think of your hair like watering a plant. You don't water the leaves (hair), you water the roots/stems in the ground (scalp).

    selsun blue is the best...
to tell you the truth , head ands shoulders is so strong it can temporary decrease your dandruff but later on you'll hav heaps of dandruff, so use a shampoo brand like sunsilk,
i hate that head and shoulders stuff you can get from a dollar store.

As a stylist, I recommend you first see a doctor to determine whether it is truely dandruff. There is a difference between dry scalp and dandruff, although the symptoms are similar. Dandruff is a bacteria, dry scalp is usually caused from the environmental elements and/or pruduct allergies. If you have determined that it is true dandruff, and dandruff shampoo hasn't worked, I suggest these homeopathic remedies: Pure Essential Tea Tree Oil applied to the scalp a few times a week, not rinsed out. Tea Tree Oil has antibacterial properties which will support the scalp with its healing process. I would also suggest switching to all hypoallergenic haircare products. After the dandruff has subsided, you make start slowly incorporating other products back into your daily regimine. I say slowly because it may have been one of those products which caused the dandruff. I hope my advice will prove true.:) Peace
dandruff is the result of dry hair and scalp. after washing, deep condition (leave it in for 3 minutes) if that does not help, you can make your own ';conditioner'; mash up 1/2 of an avocado and *** 3tsp. of honey and 1/2 tsp of e.v.o.o. leave that in in your hair after washing it for about 5 minutes. rinse out thuray. repeat this about every other day untill it goes away. you can also add coconut oil instead of evoo

Go to a dermatoligist and he will tell you what to do. If you are only using one certain kind of shampoo, I suggest you try T-Gel instead of the one that isn't helping.

What is in anti-dandruff shampoo that makes it so different to other brands?

And why don't they just put this in all shampoos and conditioners? What is in anti-dandruff shampoo that makes it so different to other brands?
Dandruff shampoos typically have an anti-fungal ingredient, such as pyrithione zinc, or selenium sulfide. There are also shampoos with coal tar in them, such as Neutrogena's T/Gel. Because dandruff is basically a fungal infection, not everyone needs the treatment, and it may dry out the scalp. Also, some dandruff shampoos can be fairly harsh on the hair (dry out the hair, strip haircolor, etc.), which is why it's not a good idea for all shampoos to have these ingredients. What is in anti-dandruff shampoo that makes it so different to other brands?
a dandruff shampoo is specially made for people with dandruff problems. people get rid of the problem and use a diff.shampoo. dandruff shampoos are temporary so that people can use it JUST to get rid of the problem. its almost like as if it had medicine in it. so thats why this cannot be put in ALL shampoos.
I like Ice Cap.. It can't be bought at WalMart because it is a High-Quality Brand and can be bought at State Beauty and also I think Sally . It gives a tingling feeling and feels really good!

If you don't have a store like that in your town or city, then you can always look on ebay!

The key is to get to the scalp and speed the ';sloughing'; or shedding of skin from the scalp. Everyones scalp slough's, those with dandruff collect skin then shed in clumps. The various shampoo's use a few different types of treatments, all trying to do the same thing....get the scalp to slough at a normal rate.

1 - Try taking a look at other products that are not just shampoos

2 - Dandruff can be relieved by a variety of ways

    Head and Shoulders!

It works and smells good too!
Don't wear black without the Blue. Selsun Blue
Nizoral.. Its kind of costly (16 bucks almost)

get a life...non of your business
Head and Shoulders. If it's extreme, check with your doctor for a prescription formula.
If you want something that works, you can't buy it off a store shelf. I am 43 years old and battled dandruff for years. I had a terrible case of it. Then, I used shampoo from Yves Rocher, and it totally went away. I don't even have to use dandruff shampoo anymore. I can guarantee you it will work to perfection.

    http://www.yvesrocherusa.com/control/pro…

Also, I had pretty good success with SunSilk dandruff shampoo, but I also got a couple bumps on my scalp. They have the same philosphy as Yves Rocher. Moisturize the scalp instead of drying it out with ordinary dandruff shampoo.
What Jen said mostly, oh yeah, i like your screename.
Ethier T-gel or head and shoulders
Nizoral hands down. It used to be available by prescription only. Now you can buy it over the counter. You only have to use it a couple times a week. If you wash your hair daily, like I do, then you can use another shampoo during the week. I use Garnier Fruitis dandruff control. Now I have no problems at all.
what ever you do DO NOT USE HEAD AND SHOULDERS it creates more fungus on your head. the best one would be nizorol but only use as derected or it will lead to hair loss!

well either head and shoulders or selsun blue =]
    head and shoulders
The absolute best is Nizoral. The problem with Head %26amp; Shoulders and Selsum is they only treat the symptoms, Nizoral treats the cause of dandruff – excess of P. ovale found on your scalp. Also, it is very gentle. Nizoral can be found at most pharmacies and stores like Eckerds or Walgreens. It costs about $15.
Selsun Blue %26amp; Head and Shoulders are the best! I definitely would recommend them!!
ok head and shoulder works just fine and it dosn't cost a lot but it will help amke ur flakes go away but seriulsy shampoos wont make ur dandruff go away they have this chemcial glue formula that just stick ur dandruff to ur scalp so it doesn't get rid of it it glues it to ur scalp try using a massage oil on ur hair and massage ur scalp every week it will make ur scalp healthy and will make ur danraff go way
Neutrogen has a good one and yu can always use apple cider vinegar.

    Dandruff shampoo?

yeah ive had dandruff since i was a kid and well im 15 now and ive tried all the dandruff shampoo like t-gel and and all that neutrogena stuff and it only helps a little it will not permanently go away. and i can like scratch little chunks of dandruff off my head and then its like it grows back the next day? so if u know any good dandruff treatments let me know? and ive heard that selsun blue works is this true and if not name sumthin that work well.Dandruff shampoo?
Nizoral AD is the only thing (short of a prescription) that has ever worked for me.

If it is really bothering you, you should see a dermatologist. I did, and it really helped ;)Dandruff shampoo?
try Nizoral its expensive but it work wal-wart or target about $15.00 for 8oz

it sound like you may have Seborrhea dermatitis and that what I've had for more that 40 years

I've try the shampoo like the t-gel and others that are hard on your hair

    take care
Dandruff simply does not go away. Selsun Blue is the best shampoo that you can buy for dandruff and it comes in a variety of shampoos as well.
You should see a dermatologist. There's a chance you could have something called Seborrheic Dermatitis of the scalp. It causes chronic dandruff. If this is indeed the case, the dermatologist could prescribe a treatment that might be able to help you.
Go get some Nizoral from Wal-mart and you'll be surprised! No it won't go away but this stuff really works great! PS all the rest of the stuff your being told about sucks like selsum blue and head and shoulders!!!

i know that citrus lemon can control dandruff,,but i think you should go to dermatologists,,that;s nice,,
have you not heard of Head and Sholders? Its made especially for dandruff
    T-Gel by Nutragena
selsun blue actually does not work.

i had a bad dandruff problem and then i started shampooing more regularly and the problem went away completely.

just try keeping your hair more clean.
You can use any dandruff shampoo but it will work better if you follow this method. Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 6 tablespoons of hot water.Dab with cotton into the scalp, parting the hair with a comb.It should preferably be used at bed time. Next morning shampoo the hair. More simple remedies for dandruff at http://usefulinfo-dandruff.blogspot.com/
I use Head and Shoulders and it works really well. I also use a tea tree oil shampoo once a week and it works wonders for healing up your scalp. You can find the tea tree oil shampoo at some salons, or possibly an alternative health store.
The '; chunk '; flakes that you're taking off your head aren't meant to be peeled off by your fingers. Sounds ugly, but it's true. What those pieces are is actually your scalp healing. Instead of forcing or scrathing anything off, leave your head alone for a while, and you'll see that those flakes will go away. As for the shampoo, I honestly can't really help you with that. I recommend Head%26amp;Shoulders, I use that, but every shampoo is different for every person.

    Dandruff Shampoo?

any good one out there that strips down ur hair completely

i have natural hair not colored

its not bad but sometimes i see some flakes of dandruff

(not head and shoulders, pantene, sunsilk)Dandruff Shampoo?
OK the best choice and is the # 1 doctor recommended shampoo for dandruff is (NIZORAL). The second best choice is(NEOTROGENA TGEL). Now for the nizoral you use it twice a week for a month, and just once a week, or once every other week after that to keep dandruff from returning. The Neotrogena TGel you use it at least twice a week. Both of these will do the same thing but the Nizoral is much more potent, I use Nizoral once a week. But Neotrogena TGel is very good also and is dermatologist recommended but not # 1 Doctor recommended for killing the fungus that causes dandruff. And also I need to add you can use your regular shampoo and conditioner during using these dandruff shampoos. Using these dandruff shampoos I have recommended actually will not strip the essential oils from your hair as using as directed. They both will leave your hair healthy looking and manageable. Now the answer that tomorger has gave you is good, but still you want to clean deeply to kill the fungus that causes dandruff in the first place. I hope this information helps and get ready for dandruff free hair forever.

i'd say selson blue, you can use head and shoulders, but it doesn't work as well
    Head and Shoulders
I have tried two kind of dandruff shampoo, one is head and shoulders. They both work fine and keep my hair smooth as silk too. I think the main thing is massagibg the skull when shampooing your hair, and don't wash your hair everyday if you don't have to .
Head and shoulders (?). Worked for me but I know many people will say it doesn't.
head and shoulders, but you must use it at least 3 times a week in the beginning.
t-gel gets rid of it straight way, everytime

after a few uses start using head and shoulders and that should keep any dandruff at bay
ask your doctor for a shampoo called Nizoral 2%-anti dandruff treatment. it really works,u need to get it from a pharmacy.
Get on from your salon American Crew is the best. NO on the head and shoulders it is so harsh you can perm your hair with it!!!
    head %26amp; shoulders
head %26amp; shoulders intensive solutions. i've tried pretty much every kind, and this was the only on that works. good luck :]
    head and shoulders.
    Head and SHoulders
I use Selson Blue, and it works very well for me.
    Head and shouler
neutragena t-gel or paul mitchell tea tree
I wanted to list this for your reference. First, Selson Blue works very well and there are scripts that you can get for stronger shampoos. However, if you have a very tight budget or are in a pinch, using the regular Listerine - the amber color - works very well. Before Listerine had all the flavorings, its use as a dandruff treatment was listed on the bottle. It was right on the label under ';Directions for Use';. It does dry your hair though and you will need some conditioner afterwards. It cleared up my dandruff several times in only two days. It also works well for cleaning cuts and bruises. Can't use the flavored stuff, only the amber. And then you'll need your conditioner afterwards to put the moisture back in your hair.
head and shoulders works very well.
like every1 else sed, head and shoulders. But make sure taht u only use the anti- dandruff shampoo for the period of time taht u ahve dandruff, as teh are extremely drying, so then they will strip ur hair of its oils. That happens to my clients a lot, and i tell them to use a moisturising shampoo afterwards, and condition lots!! good luck hun!! xoxox

    Dandruff Shampoo?

my bff has really bad dandruff and it wont go away with most shampoo a doctor checked... its not lice. any good STRONG dandruff shampoo?Dandruff Shampoo?
Here's my special cure for this problem. I grew up in my familes beauty salon, and I myself have dealt with flakes. No fun. So check this out and it may take a couple of these to work. All in all...they really do work!!

    1. Buy a boar brissle brush from your local beauty supply. (The stiff brissles on a plastic brush base) Have him use this brush before he showers to basically scratch that itchy scalp and loosen flakes.

    2. Wash hair: using tepid or cool/warm water and using a dandruff shampoo such as Neatrogena T-Gel shampoo or even try using Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree shampoo. (sorry people head and shoulders is gross!) You can always check out in that beuaty supply you go to other dandruff shampoos, almost every line has one. If he uses conditioner, tell him to make sure he is only putting it on the ends of his hair NOT SCALP! Hot water on the scalp burns it believe it or not, which can cause oilyness for burning it, or dryness and flakes. Think what happens when we get a sunburn...we peel and flake. Our scalp can go either way like I said when it is burned day after day by hot water.

    3. Start using a quick blow dry to dry the hair and scalp. My problem was pulling my hair up wet all the time, and air was not gettin to my scalp. Also, if he uses gel or mousse...ease off for a while to let his scalp heal.

    4. You can buy a little bottle of tea tree oil which helps as well. He can put this on at night and wash off in the morning. It's minty and cooling to the scalp while the actual oil helps to heal.

Another thing that causes this is if he's in a hurry in the shower and he's not rinsing his hair all the way or very well. For sure go get him that brush...a cheap one will do fine. Just go to a suppply and ask for one. Shouldn't cost more then $4. Good luck and trust me...this will help!!

OH YEAH...is he wearing a hat during the day? Sweaty scalp, and no air to the scalp will cause problems including hair loss. Nioxin is another good shampoo I just remembered.Dandruff Shampoo?

A REALLY GOOD OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATED SHAMPOO IS CALLED NIZORAL YOU CAN FIND IT IN SOME DRUG STORES (longs, walgreens, etc.) IT COMES IN 1% OR 2%, 2% HAS TO BE PRECRIBED. THAT WORKS REALLY WELL FOR ME AND IF THATS NOT STRONG ENOUGH THEY HAVE A PESCRIPTION STREGNTH THAT YOU CAN GET PESCRIBED BY YOUR DOCTOR THE GENERIC NAME IS KETOCONAZOLE YOU WASH YOUR HAIR WITH IT 1-2 TIMES A WEEK AND LEAVE IT ON FOR 5 MIN AND YOU USE YOUR OTHER STYLING SHAMPOOS AND CONDITIONERS BETWEEN THOSE DAYS.

    Dandruff Shampoo!?

I have serious dandruff...I need a really good shampoo that can help me get rid of it. I use Selson Blue, but it doesn't help me at all! Please help!?Dandruff Shampoo!?
i foyu have it really bad then you prolley need a prescription brand.

i used to have REALLY REALLY bad dandruff..but i think i used head and shoulders extreme dandruff control.

';head and shoulders intensive treatment'; it works great! in three days my friend was dandruff free!!! (if you dont want to use head and shoulders a secret tip is to use less shampoo.)
    i say head %26amp; shoulders...

my boyfriend uses it %26amp; whenever i go over to his place %26amp; take a shower it works for me. ** i have long (down to my butt) dark brown /almost black hair.
well i went to my doctor and i told her i already tried the selson blue and head and shoulders and she told me to use t-gel by neutregena and only wash my hair every other day and now my dandruff is completely gone!! hope this helped!!
Head n Shoulders or there's a good shampoo in the beauty supply that is in a clear bottle it looks brown and have DANDRUFF shampoo written on it by QueenHelen it is potent. i use it %26amp; it works.Hopes this helps!
I have previously had the same problem. I ended up getting a medicated brand from the pharmacy. This sounds ridiculous, but tar is one of the key ingredients. The shampoo smells pretty odd, the consistency is similar to water and it is brown, but it really does do the trick.

I could recommend brands but I'm in Australia and I have no idea if it's available anywhere else.

Just pick one that has tar as it's key ingredient and you won't go wrong.

    I'm very serious.
head n shoulder's is REALLY good for dandruff and they have different varieties for your hair type so you can pick them.;)

I don't think there are many fragrance free shampoos availiable, but they do sell them. My best bet is that you search it up on google, and find one that you can buy in your local area. Go to your doctor and ask him if there are any dandruff shampoos YOU can use healthily.

I've searched it on google, and nearly all the shampoos I found that were fragrance free, said they were fragrance free, so you'll know if you find one.

    Good Luck :p
The best type of shampoo to treat dandruff would be ';tea tree'; as it doesnt have fragrance, and its very gentle on your head, it leaves your scalp feeling fresh and hydrated. Hope this helps x
my advice is dnt use ne shampoo as thy contains chemicals. u want 2 get rid of dandruff?? apply lemon juice or curd on ur scalp b4 washing ur hair n see d difference. the dandruff will vanish. I hav tried n it works.
the original head and shoulders has little fragrance.
    Dandruff treatment using Fenugreek Seeds

The use of fenugreek seeds is one of the most important remedies in the treatment of dandruff. Two tablespoons of these seeds should be soaked overnight in water and ground into a fine paste in the morning. This paste should be applied all over the scalp and left for half an hour. The hair should then be washed thoroughly with soap-nut (ritha) solution or shikakai.

    Dandruff treatment using Lime

The use of a teaspoon of fresh lime juice for the last rinse, while washing the hair, is another useful remedy. This not only leaves the hair glowing but also removes stickiness and prevents dandruff.

Dandruff treatment using Green Gram Powder

A valuable prescription for removal of dandruff is the use of green gram powder. The hair should be washed twice a week with two tablespoons of this powder mixed with half a cup of curd.

    Dandruff treatment using Beet

Beets have been found useful in dandruff. Both tops and roots should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the finger tips every night. White beet is better for this purpose.

    Dandruff treatment using Snake Gourd

The juice of snake gourd has been found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of dandruff. The juice should be rubbed over the scalp for this purpose.

    Dandruff treatment using Other Remedies

Dandruff can be removed by massaging the hair for half an hour with curd which has been kept in the open for three days, or with a few drops of lime juice mixed with amla juice every night, before going to bed. Another measure which helps to counteract dandruff is to dilute cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water and dab this on to the hair with cotton wool inbetween shampooing. Cider vinegar added to the final rinsing water after shampooing also helps to disperse dandruff.

    Dietaries for Dandruff

Dandruff : Home Remedies suggested by users

All-fruit diet with three meala a day of juicy fruits

Diet plays an important role in the treatment of dandruff. To begin with, the patient should resort to an all-fruit diet for about five days and take three meals a day of juicy fruits.

Avoid citrus fruits, bananas, tinned fruits

Citrus fruits, bananas, dried, stewed, or tinned fruits should not be taken.

    Well-balanced diet

After the all-fruit diet, the patient can gradually adopt a well-balanced diet, with emphasis on raw foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Further short periods of an all-fruit diet for three days or so may be necessary at monthly intervals till the skin's condition improves.

Avoid strong tea/coffee, pickles, refined and processed foods

Meats, sugar, white flour, strong tea or coffee, condiments, pickles, refined and processed foods should all be avoided.

    Other Dandruff treatments

Keep hair and scalp clean to avoid accumulation of dead cells

The foremost consideration in the treatment of this disorder is to keep the hair and scalp clean so as to minimise the accumulation of dead cells.

Hair should be brushed daily to improve circulation

The hair should be brushed daily to improve the circulation and remove any flakiness. The most effective way to brush the hair is to bend forward from the waist with the head down towards the ground, and brush from the nape of the neck towards the top of the head. The scalp should also be thoroughly massaged everyday, using one's finger tips and working systematically over the head. This should be done just before or after brushing the hair. Like brushing, this stimulates the circulation, dislodges dirt and dandruff, and encourages hair growth. Exposure of the head to the rays of the sun is also a useful measure in the treatment of dandruff.

    Warm-water enema

During the first five days of the treatment when the patient takes an all-fruit diet, a warm-water enema should be taken daily to cleanse the bowels. Simultaneously, an attempt should be made to keep the body in good health.

  • Is it ok to wash dog with dandruff shampoo to treat dry skin?

I had a poodle for 15 years that had severe skin issues (he had puppy eczema). The only thing that i could wash him in without causing a severe reaction/itching/chewing holes in himself, was head and shoulders with conditioneer for dry scalp . My vet actually recommended it for him years ago. I never had a problem with his skin after I started bathing him with it. No oatmeal, hydorcortisone, or medicated shampoo helped him. I cannot tell you how many 100's of dollars I spent trying to find something that would work for him. I also fed him a can of tuna in oil once a week and put a spoonful of plain yogurt in his food 3 times a week (also helps with digestion, as well as skin and coat). Two more recommendations from my country vet!

Oh, yeah, the head and shoulders will also help kill any fleas that he may have. Good luck!

Addition: make sure he is eating a good food. No pedigree or dog chow junk. A lot of skin issues/shedding come from poor diet and grocery store dog foods are nothing but fillers. They have very little nutritional value for a dog.Is it ok to wash dog with dandruff shampoo to treat dry skin?
I would not try human anti-dandruff on a dog. Most of them have some serious chemicals in there and are not all that safe for human use- so I certainly would not try them on a dog.

There are doggie anti-dandruff shampoos out there that can help your situation- but with dandruff I would also be thinking there might be some form of a health issue there.

You might want to start to add some natural yoghurt, oily fish like tuna or sardines, egg, and cod liver oil to your dogs diet and see if his coat improves.

If not I would consult the vets about this next time your dog is due for a checkup. Is it ok to wash dog with dandruff shampoo to treat dry skin?
Washing a dog with dandruff shampoo will likely dry his skin out more. I recommend that my patients medicated shampoos, coat conditioners, supplements, itch reducers and fortified dog foods. Any product that will help to retain the moisture content on the dogs coat and skin will help a lot.
No. People shampoo is not Ph balanced for dogs, and can harm them. Dandruff shampoo is even worse. You need to go to a groomer or a vet (or possibly any store that sells pet supplies) and get a bottle of shampoo specially formulated for dogs. If your dog has dry skin, look for something with oatmeal.
NO! dog have more sensitive skin than we do you could try an oatmeal shampoo with a moisturizer it should help after a while or you can use a baby shampoo if not take the dog to a groomer and try an oatmeal shampoo and a moisturizer or a hypo shampoo.
Don't use human shampoo on your dog. Try oatmeal shampoo that's made to be used on dogs. That's what I use for both of my dogs that have very dry skin. It doesn't cost a lot of money, so pick some up and try it out. It works on my dogs. Good luck!
I dont know. Dandruff shampoo might be poisonous to the dog. Read the label and maybe ask a vet. They will know more than the people on here do. But I would advise getting a medicated shampoo instead to be on the safe side.
I haver tryed it before on my dogs and it works alot better then the medicated shampoo, its awesome i love use it on my dogs, the best it head and shoulders, and it make them smell good to lol
I think that the best type of shampoo to treat dry skin for dogs is

Johnson's Baby Shampoo. My friend uses it and it also makes

their fur not fall out so much. It's amazing. You should try it.
No you dont want to ever use human shampoos on your dogs. You need to get a good conditioning shampoo preferably one with oatmeal.
No. You figure out why he has dry skin. Are you bathing too often? That's usually the culprit. Bathe only once a month at most.
No, just go and get some dog shampoo with oatmeal (it treat dry skin and skin conditions)
Wash with a mild dog shampoo, then rub the dry skin with aloe gel.
why don't you just get medicated dog shampoo? ..
sure man. no problem at all.

What is the best dandruff shampoo? I will spend ANY amount of money as long as it gets rid of it! Thanks!?

Also, I tried the neutrogena t-gel stuff and it kinda worked but it had a REALLY strong smell and it gave me a migrane so I can't use it anymore. What is the best dandruff shampoo? I will spend ANY amount of money as long as it gets rid of it! Thanks!?
You have to keep switching to different dandruff shampoos. Once your skins gets used to one shampoo, then most likely it will lose its ability to work, so then you have to find another kind, with a different ingrediant. There is one that is sold at SALLY's supplies that is really good. What is the best dandruff shampoo? I will spend ANY amount of money as long as it gets rid of it! Thanks!?
I have had some of the same problems a while back. I find that during the winter when I use indoor heating and their is little moisture in the air, I get the same type problems. The answer for me was a DAILY CLARIFYING shampoo. I could shampoo every day if I wished, the smell was negligible, and the price was fairly inexpensive. Hope this helps.

Is Dandruff shampoo effective as underarm deodorant?

Can anyone recommend what category I should be asking this in, if not biology? Is Dandruff shampoo effective as underarm deodorant?
I think there are other additives in deodorant that give it more staying power.----

Antiperspirants include aluminum salts which play an important role in reducing sweat deposits by helping to close the sweat ducts. Combating sweat with the aid of deodorant is hurried along with the inclusion of the antiseptic in the deodorant. Remember this only helps with the smelly secretion and not to eliminate the sweating

Deodorants contain an antiseptic to combat bacteria and they also reduce odor but do not cut down the sweating. Expect to find most deodorants to be scented giving a false identity to working miracles when in fact it is just overpowering a body odor smell for a few hours.

couldn't find any good info on dandruff shampoo though.sorry, but I hope that it at least half helps, lol.Is Dandruff shampoo effective as underarm deodorant?
That depends. Do you want your armpits to smell like your hair? Again, that depends. Does your dandruff shampoo smell medicated? Personally, I would prefer that my armpits smell nothing like my hair. Strangely enough, I like my hair to smell like Jojoba, but . . . .

And suddenly the joke became too silly to pursue!

Nope, I think it might be the simple fact that you are using a soap product on your armpits. Armpit odor is caused by bacteria which eat the salts in your perspiration and their farts cause the odor. Any soap with an Anti-bacterial additive will be successful in defeating the bacteria. I use one of those Thai stones for armpit deodorant. I have no idea how it works, but it's just a salty crystal that I moisten and smear. It works all day!
Used as a pigment and anti-fungal in both products. So you should probably still use deodorant.
Next time your out just ask your friends if you stink.
LOL thanks for the tip Happy!

Ummm how about Beauty and Style? =)

Why would people waste their money on damaging chemical dandruff shampoo when green tea works better?

I tried every shampoo, but they were all failures. i found a site that suggested masaging green tea in the scalp and it healed YEARS of horrible dandruff INSTANTLY! why is this information generally supressed from the public??Why would people waste their money on damaging chemical dandruff shampoo when green tea works better?
Massage green tea into your scalp? Really? How? Like you make green tea and just soak your scalp? Why would people waste their money on damaging chemical dandruff shampoo when green tea works better?
The companies want more money. If it was spread all over the internet that you could just massage green tea into your scalp to be ridden of dandruff, then all of the dandruff shampoo companies would lose a ton of business because green tea is generally cheaper than dandruff shampoo. Imagine that one company sold boxes of all kinds of crayons. One day, there came up a crayon that cost less, had the same quality-- maybe worked better, that if you pressed a button, you could change the color, clear all mistakes. Don't you think the first company would lose a significant quantity of business?
Some people never knew about the green tea effect, and the companies like raking in money. Also if the customers DO know about the tip, it might not have not fixed the dandruff for them.

Or they simply do not believe, something as silly as massaging green tea into the scalp will solve what companies spend thousands of money to research the solution.

*I am not the stupid type, and will now go hunt some green tea down :D
I am sure if you go to a natural food store or similar that you'll be able to find green tea dandruff shampoo. There is no big conspiracy to suppress anything, it's just simple market dynamics. The big companies have more money to show ads and get their products onto the best spots on the shelves.
The dandruff shampoo companies want money.
