What is the best dandruff/dry scalp shampoo?

I'm looking for a moisturizing shampoo to help with my itchy and dry scalp. I am a black woman w/ thin fine hair so I can not use certain products. I usually get eczema around my hairline/edges whenever the seasons changes, so I have to wash my hair more often than usual at this time of year. What is the best dandruff/dry scalp shampoo?
1st look at this as a problem from inside- out....drink lots of water %26amp; make sure you check your diet as it can be the cause of these things from inside out %26amp; our skin, %26amp; hair are a gauge to check these things nutrition wise. Take a viatmin b supplement %26amp; folic acid tablet which your hair skin %26amp; nails will love you for AND it gives you energy! Next...go to a beauty supply store %26amp; check out items ( shampoos or cremes for hair) that have tea tree oil in it. There are also the carrot produce oils etc. Best natural cheap trick at home is the old fashioned vinegar rinse ( add 1/2 teaspon apple cider vinegar to a 1/2 gallon of warm water %26amp; pour over your hair after shampooing--then rinse thouroughly) once a month also you can apply mayonaise onto your hair %26amp; wrap your head in a warm moist towel for about 10 minutes, then shampoo as usual. I also find that when My hair needs to have oils replenished back %26amp; I just want a shampoo to make my hair very healthy again, shiney %26amp; smell GREAT _ i shop until I find BRECK shampoo, very thick luxurious hair %26amp; CHEAP!!!!! Hope this helps! :)What is the best dandruff/dry scalp shampoo?
My son had a dandruff problem,so I rubbed baby oil into his hair and scalp. I left it in there for the entire day and after I washed it out for him ,his dandruff was gone and his scalp wasn't itchy and dry anymore.I've used other products on him but the baby oil was the only thing that seemed to work.
I have dandruff and i use head and shoulder's it with out a doubt works the best but dont forget to get the conditioner as well, it helps.
Sometimes my scalp gets dry too, and I've used Garnier's Anti-dandruff shampoo...You can tell the difference after just one time, and within a week or two it's all completely gone.
avoid using shampoo with conditioners..

u can try CANDID shampoo

All the men in my family have bad dandruff and kep it in check by keeping our hair buzzed close but i doubt thats an option for you. Ummm, my dad uses Head and Shoulders but I dont like it myself and I use a shampoo called Nizoral. It comes in a little box.

Which dandruff shampoo should i use?

I usually use Head N Shoulders and my dandruff went away but when school started it came back.(I have really thick hair and i am in athletics so they make us tie our hair back.)My cuz told me use V5 shampoo but my friends say for me to use Neutrogena T-GEL or selsan blue medicated. Which one should I use for my hair?Which dandruff shampoo should i use?
I use to use Head N shoulders because i had really bad dandruff, it worked and it helped my scalp a lot but the downfall was it made my hair fall out a lot! I dunno if its just me but my hair shouldn't fall out because I'm a teenager so i stopped using it :D But you should do research on other dandruff shampoos i heard neutrogena was a good one. Which dandruff shampoo should i use?
head and shoulders isn't very good!

the best one i've ever tried is the T-GEL.

it is really strong and your dandruff will completely go away from only 1 or 2 uses of it!

What is the best shampoo for dandruff?

I was using selsun blue for awhile, but now it seems as its not working. Is it because of the change of weather? What do you use if you have dandruff? What is the best shampoo for dandruff?
Garnier long and strong is another option for u besides Clinic all clear.

Another tip is make a mask by mixing one egg with small amount of yogurt and put it on ur scalp for about half an hour. This really works. What is the best shampoo for dandruff?
i like head and shoulders. it also makes your hair real shiny and it smells realy good
HEAD %26amp; SHOULDERS
Selsun worked for me, but you might want to try head and shoulder as well, also let your hair dry before you put it in a ponytail or bun.
Use clinic all clear (best).I have tried it.

  • Does anyone know of an effective anti-dandruff hair shampoo for black women's hair?

In the past, I have used selsun blue, head and shoulders, neutrogena, they all turn out to be a waste of money!Does anyone know of an effective anti-dandruff hair shampoo for black women's hair?
I have black hair and have had this problem. I went through so many products and grease that did not work. What I have been using for the last two months is Aveda Brilliant Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner. The Brilliant line is made for textured and chemically treated hair (I have a relaxer). I wash my hair once a week and leave the conditioner in for 5 mins. I then follow with a deep conditioner and I use Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment and leave that in my hair for 20 mins. For grease, I use Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade. I also never put heat in my hair without protecting it (I use Motions heat protectant or Aveda Brilliant Damage Control, Isoplus Oil Sheen very lightly, and Smooth n Shine Polishing Spray). Good Luck!Does anyone know of an effective anti-dandruff hair shampoo for black women's hair?
maybe try that new pantene idk if its for dandruff though
im in cosmetology school. and most of our clients come in and get the INDIGO peppermint dandruff shampoo. it works really good. and its hard to find in the stores so you will probably have to purchase it online.
you should use blue vu. my best friend uses it and says that it works, i don't have dandriff so i don't know but it might.
Have you ever tried Nioxin. They make eveything for your hair. I use there product in my head and my daughters. I dont have dandruff but my daughters did before I started using it in thier heads. Its not cheap but it works.
try Sulfur 8 and follow it with the Sulfur 8 grease/oil. It has a menthol smell to it, but it feels really nice on the scalp and is medicated to treat scalp conditions such as dandruff
Joico has an awesome anti-dandruff shampoo out there . Dandruff is flaking scalp so be cautious when choosing treatment. Alot of products out there use wax to coat the scalp, thus providing ';instant'; releif. not good. Joico will heal %26amp; remove the dandruff over 2 weeks. Once gone, continue to use to prevent it coming back. It will look like getting worse at first, but its just the shampoo removing the flakes.

Is it ok to use dandruff shampoo on your eyebrows?

Cuz my brows are really flakey for some reasonIs it ok to use dandruff shampoo on your eyebrows?
ok, please just listen to my answer, cuz not to sound concided but its the best =] well it is perfectly fine to use dandruff shampoo on your eyebrows because most people don't know that the hair on yer eyebrows is the same as the hair on yer head. it truly works too. i use head and shoulders and it works like a charm! good luck!Is it ok to use dandruff shampoo on your eyebrows?
I would try lotion first. I get that alot too, lotion works though =)
No, use the same moisturizer you use on your face.
Shampoo might get in your eyes. I put my face moisturizer on my brows and let it soak in. It don't run.
Your eyebrows don't have dandruff their probaly just dry from the lotion you use or to much water bothering themm like showers, facewash..o and yea it's ok but your eyebrows dont have dandruff
Sure ...just cover your eyes .....

    Hope this was helpful ~~~
My suggestion would be too see a dermatologist cause unless your don't put anything on your face and it is extremely dry and flaky then something is really amiss!
    yes
errrr. i woul'dnt go as far to using dandruff shampoo on my eyes. They usually irritate the eye because of the scent and the ingrediant in them. Wash your face with cleanser made for dry skin and use a moisturizer. once a week scrub your face. I recommend using st. I'ves. peace.
just dont get it in your eyes..

well you can comb it with the eyebrow comb or w/e

and its not that hard to take off.
It's probably flaky because your skin is dry. You need a gentle face cleanser and get a really good moisturizer!! DON'T use dandruff shampoo on those areas because it's near the eyes and can get irritating. Too strong for the skin on your face.

What is the best anti-dandruff shampoo in England.?

im 16 and have really bad dandruff. have tried using head and shoulders and it gets rid of the dandruff BUT makes my hair go very greasy very quickly like as soon as i have dried it my hair is greasy and i dont like it. Any advice? xWhat is the best anti-dandruff shampoo in England.?
Probably Nizoral, which is an antifungal shampoo.By coincidence it tends to help dry hair as well. What is the best anti-dandruff shampoo in England.?
I have scalp psoriasis, and whilst it is not similar to dandruff, I use Capasal which is available at the Chemists but is ';Off Prescription'; ie you can pay for it. It is much gentler than Nizoral, it is extremely good at removing greasy topical treatments (which is how I came to know about it) and it keeps my psoriasis at bay. You do not need to wash hair twice, which in time will slow down your natural oil production. It doesn't contain anything ';unpleasant'; and doesn't pong like Selsun, which I haven't used for many years so can't say anything for or against it.
1 - Are you asking Chemical vs. Herbal?

2 - Chemical shampoos will definitely have an effect but not as much as a herbal

3 - I've come across some great herbal products which will help

4 - Both of these products will help you out AND save you money - http://www.tr.im/dandruff and http://tr.im/dryscalp
Try supermarket brands to see if they make a difference. Sainsburys worked for me, :) If not maybe you should seek professional advice?
In the US, it is SELSUN. it is very good. After 2 or 3 wash, you will be done

Those dry flakes are a buildup of dead skin cells that may come from a fungus. A shampoo that has ';pyrithoione zinc'; will reduce flakes, and a conditioner will help your scalp stay moisurized and healthy. If your hair is dry and has dandruff use a dandruff shampoo with conditioner in it. Try: Head and Shoulders Smooth %26amp; Silky Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner. $5 each, in drugstores. Copper helps kill and control the fungus that may cause dandruff:Brush hair with a copperinfused brush everyday to minimize a flaky scalp. Try: Goody Styling Therapy Reduce+Dandruff Copper unfused brush, $12 found in drugstores.

    Hope that helps

    Good luck!!!!

Try Neutrogena Triple Moisture, or the new Head and Shoulders. I don't have bad dandruff, but they seem to work well and smell pretty good. :)
    did u try selsun blue
Actually I was going to say that Head and Shoulders has a new fragrance out that actually smells quite nice. Stay away from the original.
i buy selsum blue or selsum salon. it works really good and smells good (not great but it might work!)

There is a new Herbal Essences called Hello Hydration. It's not a dandruff shampoo, but it helps to hydrate your hair, and worked to get rid of my dandruff. It smells like coconuts, I love it.
A person can use Scalpicin, which is not a shampoo but a treatment that can be directly applied to the scalp, it has virtually no smell...and it works!

Seabreeze antiseptic (yeah, the kind you use on your face.) can be used as well...

To take care of the issue in a more out of the box way you can try:

    Supplements

Black currant/evening primrose oils Add black current or evening primrose oil to your diet. These oils contain gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid hard to get in the diet that helps hair, skin and nails look healthy. Many people who are on low or no-fat diets lack essential fatty acids. Start with 500 mg twice a day. If the dandruff starts to clear up, cut the dose in half. It may take up to two months to begin seeing results.

Vitamin E To relieve itching and reduce scaling, rub vitamin E oil into your scalp.

    Remedies

    Folk

Aloe vera Thoroughly rub a thick gel of aloe vera leaves into the scalp; leave overnight; shampoo in the morning.

Apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar will help restore the proper acid/alkaline balance of the scalp and kill a bacteria that clogs the pores that release oil to the scalp. The clogged pores result in scales and crusts being formed. Apply apple cider vinegar diluted 50% with water to the scalp and let dry. There is no need to rinse. Another similar remedy suggests pouring two tablespoons into a cup, applying the straight vinegar to the scalp, and leaving it on from 15 minutes to three hours before shampooing. Lemon juice may also be used. It is the acid in these remedies that helps bring the scalp back into chemical balance.

Coconut oil Rub some pure coconut oil in your hair daily. The dandruff should clear up in a few days.

Grapefruit seed extract Mix 7-10 drops with the normal amount of shampoo you use. Massage into your hair and leave on for at least 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water, avoiding contact with eyes.

Listerine For mild cases of dandruff, use the mouthwash Listerine. It has antiseptic properties. Do not use on cases where the skin is broken as the Listerine can be irritating.

    Herbal

Ginger Combine olive oil and ginger root and apply to your scalp before shampooing. If your dandruff is really bad, put the mixture on 10-15 minutes before shampooing.

Rosemary Rub rosemary oil or a mixture of olive oil and crushed rosemary leaves into your scalp and leave on for 15 minutes.

Tea Make a tea of either sage or burdock and use as a rinse after shampooing.

Thyme Make a rinse by boiling four heaping teaspoons of dried thyme in two cups of water for ten minutes; strain and allow to cool. Massage this tea in your clean, damp hair; do not rinse out. The oil from the thyme has antiseptic properties.

I found this on the web, hope it helps...

T-Gel by Neutrogena is very good. Its rather expensive though. Like 5-6 dollars per bottle. What is the Best Dandruff Shampoo?
Head and Shoulders, it's the best brand for that. I wanted to answer this, even before I saw answer 1, so I guess it's well known for it.
You need to get head %26amp; shoulders.
If you are in the UK then its got to be Superdrug's Anti Dandruff Shampoo, the frequent use one! I tried everything there was on this planet and this one was the one i used for about two weeks, no more flaky head!!! I still use it now, brilliant stuff. It costs about 拢1.40 for a large bottle.
Garneir Fruitiese Dandruff control (sorry that is really spelt wrong but it comes in a lime green bottle and smells fruity)

My hairs are very dry and there is dandruff what shampoo is best for me?

    Hi guys,

I have very dry hair and there is dandruff, I am very upset please guide me what shampoo will reduce dryness and dandruff? My hairs are very dry and there is dandruff what shampoo is best for me?
head and shoulders, but it sounds like you wash your hair a lot. most shampoos are made to remove oils from your hair and oils are what give your hair shine and keeps your scalp from drying out. wash your hair every other day and use a good conditioner like garnier fructis. only use head and shoulders once a week and you hair will be dandruff free and shiny. My hairs are very dry and there is dandruff what shampoo is best for me?
go a nd have your thyroid checked.....
You should try ';Head and Shoulders.'; It works really good with people that have dandruff and dry hair.
you should first use sulfur shampoo, you can get it at any hair store, then use a Redken shampoo and a Redken conditioner to restore the moisture in your hair. It works for me. I've tried Head n shoulders, nutrogena, tea tree oil, Nizoral, and this is the only thing that works for me. Also use a leave in conditioner after you finish wash your hair. You'll see a difference. Once every 2 weeks get a protein treatment at your local stylist or you can use V05'S deep conditioning treatment ( the 10 minute one come with a deep conditioning cap) and you will see results.
tea tree oil shampoo, the organic kind, its all natural
    Hi Mr AZF,

i know what its like wanting to be dandruff free.try nizoral shampoo u can purchased with a prescription over the counter at pharmacies.head n shoulders works great too .changed ur brand of shampoo every 2 to 3 mths as it will tend to be immune to the same type over long periods.
I agree with the others that Head and Shoulders will help with the dandruff. I would also suggest getting a moisturizing shampoo. Dove moisturizing is one that I prefer that is cheap enough to use every day. Sometimes I use a more costly conditioner, such as Joico's KPAK, because my hair is naturally very dry.

Does axe anti dandruff shampoo get rid of dandruff please be honest?

    no...

Dandruff is often associated with dryness of the scalp. There is however a world of difference between dandruff and flakes of dry skin from ones scalp, but it is no doubt a scalp problem. Medically, dandruff is known as 鈥榩ityriasis鈥?and is a result of 鈥榮eborrhea鈥?which is a disorder of the oil secreting glands of the scalp. Dandruff flakes are greasier than those of dry skin and impart an odor typical of themselves. Those who have dandruff have itchy, irritating scalps, characterized by redness. There are methods of getting rid of dandruff rather than wearing light coloured clothes to hide the while flakes which are almost as embarrassing as snowflakes are beautiful.

The most important thing once you鈥檝e identified dandruff (which is an infection) is to take some precautions to avoid the condition from becoming worse or spreading. If hair products like shampoos, conditioners, etc. are not washed off properly they magnify the ill effects of dandruff. It is also advisable not to share your hair styling tools like combs, hair brushes, rollers, etc if you suffer from dandruff to steer clear from passing it on. Anti dandruff shampoos are a cure for dandruff, but far from a permanent one. The problem returns within a short while of discontinuing usage of the shampoo.

In India, on an average 30 out of 100 males and 50 out of a 100 females are victims of dandruff and consequently of the vicious 鈥榓nti dandruff shampoo cycle鈥?

There are few, but definitely existent ways to get rid of dandruff other than shampoos. One such cure is vinegar. Massage vinegar onto your scalp and leave it for few minutes before washing it off thoroughly. Follow the above procedure and you will see your dandruff start to disappear within a week鈥檚 time. The same steps as above can be carried out using lemon (about half) squeezed in warm hair oil to achieve considerably good results.

Increasing ones intake of salads (mainly raw fruits and vegetables), vitamins B, C and E and zinc ( in the form of foodstuffs rich in these of supplements) and reducing that of fried and dairy foods, nuts and sugar is helpful in reversing the condition of a dandruff affected scalp.

If the above techniques are not helpful, then your problem is more serious than what you are capable of handling on your own and what you need is a dermatologist

If the above techniques are not helpful, then your problem is more serious than what you are capable of handling on your own and what you need is a dermatologist

  • Can anyone recommend a good anti dandruff shampoo?

I've tried the usual 'cosmetic' shampoos (Head %26amp; Shoulders, etc) and most of the medicated ones (Nizoral etc). What i'd really like is something that is a good anti-dandruff but also leaves my hair in good condition. I find that the mediciated shampoos tend to dry my hair. Can anyone recommend a good anti dandruff shampoo?
If you really want your dandruff to disappear try this:

Make a strong nettle tea with 4 fl. oz of boiling water

You can use nettle t-bags about 3-4

You can also make an infusion of fresh nettle leaves if you can get them from the hedge grows

    Leave it to cool

    Strain/remove tea bags

When you are ready to wash your hair

Add a drop of fairy liquid

    Add a beaten egg white

    Brush your hair before shampooing

    Use the mixture.

Please don't forget to rinse it as normal.

You will not only become dandruff free

Your hair will be shiny and silky

I've had a severe dandruff problem in the past

Use an anti-dandruff shampoo only if the dandruff is excessive. Continue the use for two months after the dandruff is gone. Shampoos with lemon and olive oil extract are particularly good for dandruff-prone hair.

Clinic All Clear Dandruff Shampoo is a good bet.

Neutrogena Shampoo is a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo that works well as well.

Anti-dandruff shampoos are harsh on your hair, so make sure you use a good conditioner after you shampoo it.

    Hope it helps!
    Pert.

    Selson Blue
The best one that I use that does a really good job of controlling my dandruff is Head and Shoulders Intensive Care Shampoo. It is in a dark blue bottle. Trust me this works like a dream in not giving me any dandruff and keeps my scalp healthy too.

Which Dandruff shampoo is the best to use?

I don't have dandruff but my dad does. Use this I know it works.

been there, done that. head %26amp; shoulders is your best bet.
selsun blue works the best, it even leaves your hair oil-free.

i love it, no more scratching for me, and it probably will work for you too.
try looking at everything at like walmart or something and choose from there. everyones scalp is different
i use head and shoulders and it works really well for me

selsun blue i have also heard works, but cant attest to that
you may have dry scalp. use conditioner. don't scratch your head a lot if it itches. go out and let the sun hit your hair. i keep my hair very short. so i dont use like gels or spray. i think those things are bad for your hair.
head and shoulders for a couple of weeks
you should selsen blue. i hear it really works.

Ok to use shampoo after dandruff shampoo?

Hey, i have this mint shampoo that smells great. I also have dandruff, the problem is selson blue dandruff shampoo smells horrible. Is it ok to use the selson then follow it with my mint shampoo to get rid of the smell? Also i like to wash my hair everyday, how often should i use the selson blue? ThanksOk to use shampoo after dandruff shampoo?
Well, the Selsun Blue site says to leave on the shampoo for at least 2 minutes while the active ingredients get to your head before rinsing. Logic seems to say that you need to get that active ingredient absorbed into your skin before rinsing it away. Since the other shampoo will probably entirely get rid of any residue of Selsun blue, but you still want to make sure it has a chance to work!

Since they say at least 2 min, I would put the Selsun in when you first start the shower, then leave it in while you wash the rest of yourself. Then at the end, do a thorough rinse and then shampoo with your great minty stuff! Since the SB will have 5 minutes of complete activation, it won't matter that you've now washed it all out, since their active ingred actually absorb into the skin and that won't be washed away with your other shampoo.

You should be fine!Ok to use shampoo after dandruff shampoo?
You can use both, but make sure you condition your hair EVERY day.

Shampoo really dries out hair, so doubling it up can make your hair look fried. If I were you i would use alittle selson blue and alittle of the minty shampoo together. Also, selson blue should be used like 3-4 times a week.
Some dandruff is from a micro-organism and some is just dry scalp. If your problem is dry scalp then washing it twice will actually make it worse. If you don't like the smell of the Selson blue why not try another shampoo. I have the dry/itchy scalp problem I and sometime use Klorane Peony shampoo. It works great and smells fine. It's a European brand but you can get it at drugstore.com. My ex-boyfriend had the micro-organism thing and he use organic shampoo with tea tree oil (he used several brands and they all worked). Tea tree oil smells pretty nice too.

So, I think, try a different brand. You don't really want to wash your hair 2X a day.
Yes it is totally okay to use the mint after dandruff i used to do something like that and it worked well. i just wouldn't use as much mint shampoo and if you follow up with conditioner only apply it to the ends of your hair. I would use the Selson blue every day for like a week and then change it to every other day.

    Hope this helps =)
I think that would be just fine. I do that too. I think you should use the selson blue every other day just because you don't want to wash your hair too much. I would recommend though is a different dandruff shampoo call head and shoulders. It's great and it doesn't have a bad smell to it.
I think you would beable 2 use both and the dandriff every other day
    Um... I think you smell

  • What's the best dandruff shampoo to use for the best results??

Selsun Blue. Works best. It has the Selenuim I beleve it is called, anyhow... it kills the fungus that causes dandruff. You might want to see the doc tho to make sure it is dandruff, it might be dry scalp. In which case, I would tell you not to use cheap shampoos. They have harsh chemicals, which cause my scalp to dry out and scab, it is terrible. #1 bad chemical is Propolene Glycol. It is a hydrant, but it is very harsh, it is used as brake lubricat and many other things. It is a cheaper lubricant than some others, that is why for exapmle Pantene Pro V is more expensive that Sauve Professionals.... Sauve uses LOTS of propolene glycol! Good Luck! What's the best dandruff shampoo to use for the best results??

    head and shoulders.

if it doesnt work for you, try selsun blue
head and shoulders,,but to get good results use it repeadily like use it every time u take a shower
    head and shoulders
It depends on the disorder causing the flakes. While Head and Shoulders is a common recommendation, it never worked for me. In fact it has always made my flakes worse and dried out my scalp to the point of discomfort.

Sometimes it is simply a matter of avoiding the shampoo and hair products that irritate the skin. When this is the case, I have had good luck with using Natures Gate Herbal Shampoo, it is a basic at many health food stores and is often on sale for as little as $3.98 for 18 oz. Some pure castille shampoos can be helpful in this same way.

Dandruff can be caused by a lack of cleanliness, irritation due to hair products, a fungus much like athletes foot, and psoriasis, and likely some other posibilities as well. To find a cure, it helps to know the cause of the problem. It may take a few trial and error experiements to find what works best for you. It is possible to have dandruff from different causes at different times in life.

When an active ingredient seems to be needed,

I have learned to look for the active ingredient in the shampoo. I have used many of the prescribed, and over the counter brands with many different active ingredients. The ones that have helped the most have been ones with either pine tar, or salicylic acid in them. The most common name brands with these ingredients are Neutrogena T-gel, or T-sal formulas, but there are many store brands and others that have these same active ingredients at a lower cost. Kroger has a good product that is a knock off of T-sal without the dark brown color. The Kroger product is very effective for about half the cost of the name brand. Another couple of helpful formulas that I have found are ';Grandpa's Pine Tar Shampoo'; and Burt's Bee's ';Feelin' Flaky?'; Shampoo, they each can be ordered directly from thier manufacturer online, or may be located in your local grocery, drug, or health food stores.

My first choice is Natures Gate Herbal shampoo. Or the version of same with tea tree oil in it (to kill fungi and microrganisms)If that does not take care of the problem, the next choice would be the Kroger Brand Theraputic T+Plus Salicylic Acid Shampoo (its an excellent knock off of Neutrogena T-Sal at about 1/2 the price).
Do not use Head and Shoulders, it irratates the scalp.

And my hairdresser told me it was so powerful it can take the varnish off the floor.

I had a dandruff problem a few months ago and I switched to Fructis Shampoo for dandruff, a week later my scalp wasn't itchy anymore and I had no dandruff
Don't use dandruff shampoo. Mix a little bit of regular baking soda into your shampoo! It works Wonders!!!

HEAD AND SHOULDERS! It works very well.

Are you certain that you are washing and rinsing your hair properly?

When you wash it, rub every part of your scalp with your finger tips, firmly, but not scratching.

When you rinse, once you know the shampoo is all gone, simply carry on rinsing for a while longer, then a while longer again, get your fingers in with your hair and scalp to get it all completely free of shampoo.

Other than that, have you used Neutregena medicated shampoo? They do them in a few varieties, so you can choose which one suits your hair best. These ALWAYS work best when left on the scalp for about 5 mintues to really get to work. Again, do the rinse and rise and rise some more thing.

    Good luck
If you will keep using Rizoral then it will kill anything growing in the skin that would be causing it. I kinda wonder if you are allergic to your conditioner or hair gel or something. Or if you've been around any kids, there is a lot of lice going around lately so you could try a lice killer. It won't hurt you, and if you buy it in another part of town then no one will be there to embarrass you with calling you a louse! 8P I like the way selsun blue with menthol feels but its pretty worthless.
hi there i know how you can get rid of the dandruff

its an awesome place in calgary called volumebeautybar.com

go there they have the right stuff it will not dry out your hair at all its all natural

the stylists are wicked too they know what they are doing
Selsun treatments are quick, easy-to-use and work.

Head and Shoulders works as well, but you may have already tried that.

How do I know if I have dandruff, or shampoo build up?

I can't figuer out if it's dandruff, or if I need more water pressure. How do I know if I have dandruff, or shampoo build up?
If you have flakes on your hair and your clothes, then it is dandruff. I recommend using Selsun Blue or Head %26amp; Shoulders. Don't use any of these for an extended period of time.

If your hair seems dull even after washing it and you can't do your normal style then it may be product buildup. I suggest using a good clarifying shampoo. You should do this evey couple of months. How do I know if I have dandruff, or shampoo build up?
dandruff is usually flakey and looks like your scalp. if you look at the flake and it has indentations or a textured look, its dandruff, if its smooth and had no texture then it's shampoo build up. you can probably smell the fragrances from your shampoo on the flake if you have a really good nose. lol
Okay, if it's dandruff, you'll notice flaky bits of white on your scalp. If that's the case, just try Head and Shoulders shampoo. Works great to stop dandruff.

But if it's shampoo build up, then your hair will look more greasy on top than flaky. For that, you need to scrub it better with water, to make sure that you get all the products out.

(; I had both these problems, don't worry!
Try buying a shampoo that is ';deep cleaning'; such as Herbal Essence or Paintene. It will remove any excess gel or hairspray that might be leftover in your hair. If you are still seeing flakes, there is nothing wrong with using Head %26amp; Shoulders.
dandruff is indented and sometimes with holes(cause of hair follicle) and shampoo is smooth/flat but make sure to clean out all the shampoo cause then you won't be embarrassed =P
the easy way to tell if you have dandruff is if you have dandruff
If you're noticing flakes, it's dandruff.
when you scratch your hair does some white flakes (dandruff) fly out?

If it does then it is dandruff

i recommend you to use head and shoulders

    How does anti-dandruff shampoo work?

Dandruff comes from overproduction of yeast on your scalp, dandruff shampoos have special ingredients to cut down on yeast.

Can i use anti-dandruff shampoo even when i dont have dandruff?

i have short asian hair and i dont have any dandruff. i happen to have a bottle of Head and Shoulders anti-dandruff normal shampo. Would it harm my hair since i dont have dandruff? Can i use anti-dandruff shampoo even when i dont have dandruff?
It will be fine. Dandruff shampoo promotes healthy scalps. The active ingredient in it (zinc?) won't do anything to damage your hair. Can i use anti-dandruff shampoo even when i dont have dandruff?
Yeah it'll be fine. :) My boyfriend doesn't have dandruff but he always uses Head and Shoulders anyway because it makes his hair soft.

Ok how do i know if a dandruff shampoo got in my eyes?

if shampoo gets in your eyes it usually stings or feels really irritated.

  • Is it ok to use Anti-Dandruff shampoo on normal hair?

Even if you don't have dandruff, is it fine to use regularly? Is it ok to use Anti-Dandruff shampoo on normal hair?
Yes its okay to use anti dandruff shampoo on normal hair. It wont affect your hair and it could prevent from having it.Is it ok to use Anti-Dandruff shampoo on normal hair?
well, if you don't have dandruff, i don't see why you ARE using it in the first place, but it wouldn't harm your hair. and everyone has a little bit of dandruff. it would keep your hair dandruff-free if you did use it.

So how does dandruff shampoo work?

How does it get rid of the dandruff? Does it kind of ';eat it away'; or something? So how does dandruff shampoo work?
allie-o is right. It's a moisturizer...sort of like hand lotion, but for your scalp. So how does dandruff shampoo work?
    1. Eat a healthy, balanced diet. As if you needed another reason to eat right, it turns out that a healthy diet may ward off the flakes. Make sure to get plenty of zinc, Omega-3 fatty acids, and B-vitamin, and avoid excessive yeast and sugar. Research suggests that dandruff is at least in part caused by a fungus that thrives in yeasty, fatty, sugary environments. Though this does not neccesarily directly affect the conditions of your skin, your overall health will help with how your body responds to the fungus causing the dandruff.

    2. Don't worry, be happy. Stress challenges the body's defenses and encourages all sorts of ailments, including dandruff, so relax now and don't worry about wearing a black shirt tomorrow.

    3. Limit your use of hair styling products. Hairspray, mousse, and gel may contribute to dandruff in some people. They may also cause excessive drying of the skin, which can cause flaking--or trigger allergic reactions. If you notice dandruff soon after you begin to use a new product, chances are the product is to blame. The exception to this would be using a therapeutic styling gel or spray formulated with Tea Tree Oil, (ex. brand name - FlakeFree therapeutic styling gel and spray).

    4. Wash your hair regularly. Dandruff seems to thrive in oily hair, so regular shampooing can help you fight it off. If you already have dandruff, washing your hair may help you keep the symptoms (the flakes) under control until it goes away. Massage your scalp so that you clean your skin, as well as your hair. This is one time when the ';repeat'; directions in ';wash, rinse, and repeat'; may be useful. The first washing breaks up the waxy sebum, and the second washing helps rinse it all away.

    5. Use a shampoo designed to treat dandruff. If dandruff persists despite regular shampooing, you may need something stronger. There are a variety of anti-dandruff shampoos available at your pharmacy or grocery store, and they usually work. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully, and make a little extra time to shower, as most of these recommend that you leave them in for 5-10 minutes and lather twice.

    6. Be aware that there are different active ingredients in dandruff shampoos. If one does not work for you try another. Ketoconazole (brand name Nizoral) is extremely effective against certain types of dandruff that are caused by a fungus. 1% ketoconazole is available without prescription in the US, 2% requires a prescription. The 2% is available without a prescription in Canada.

    7. Be patient. While anti-dandruff shampoos may produce results after a few uses, it can take a week or two to see the difference.

    8. Switch it up. If one type of anti-dandruff shampoo doesn't seem to work, or if it works for a time but then doesn't, switch to a product with another active ingredient (the active ingredient will be labeled on the bottle).

    9. See your doctor if the problem persists after more than a couple weeks of treatment. There are prescription shampoos available, and prescription steroid creams may also help.

    * Another possible remedy consists of pouring a generous amount of table salt into your hand before showering and covering your scalp in it. Gently rub it in, covering your whole scalp. Rinse it out in the shower, and shampoo normally.

    * It's best to get your vitamins from food, rather than nutritional supplements. A quick Internet search will turn up foods you can integrate into your diet that are rich in zinc, Omega-3s, and B-vitamins.

If anti-dandruff shampoos aren't working, or if you notice redness on the scalp or silvery or yellow flakes, you may not have dandruff at all. A number of other conditions can lead to flaking skin and itchy scalp. See your primary care physician or dermatologist.

A quick internet search will turn up all kinds of home remedies for dandruff. While some of these may indeed work, anti-dandruff shampoos are inexpensive enough to be adequate for most people.

Wear light-colored clothing (especially tops) while you have dandruff. Most people won't even notice.

If you have hay fever, eczema, or other skin or respiratory allergies, your dandruff may be caused in part by an allergic reaction. In this situation, you may find it helpful to shampoo LESS frequently, so the natural oils that protect your scalp aren't stripped away. Allergic people may also react to dandruff shampoos by generating MORE dandruff. If you think this may be the case for you, try washing your hair with conditioner only, or washing less frequently. CAUTION: Try this first during a vacation or a time when you will be less publicly visible, since your scalp will be very oily at first. It will take two weeks to a month for the balance of oils on your hair and scalp to adjust itself.

Rinsing your scalp with a rinse of 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar to 3/4 cup water may help the problem. The natural acids will help loosen any sebum (dead skin and oils) that clings to your scalp and flakes to form dandruff. Rinse thoroughly with WARM, not hot, water. If you don't rinse well, you will smell like vinegar. While apple cider vinegar is the gold standard of home remedies, white vinegar or lemon juice should work as well. Lemon juice may lighten dark hair.

Tea tree oil has antiseptic qualities that may help kill the fungus, and keep your scalp moisturized. You can buy a small bottle at many groceries and health food stores, and add 5-6 drops to your regular shampoo. Or just purchase a shampoo that contains tea tree oil.

Buy and use two or three different types of regular shampoo and don't use the same one two days in a row. This way build up is minimized. For some reason this gets rid of lesser cases of dandruff.

Plain old fashioned Listerine (the original amber formula) works wonders on dandruff! In fact, up until the 1980s, the label even mentioned that it was effective on infectious dandruff. Daily or several times a week, saturate a cotton ball with Listerine and swab over your scalp. It really works!

Leave-in treatments like Scalpicin may be useful for particularly itchy scalps.

    Hope this was helpful ~~
The really strong dandruff shampoo has coal tar in it. I can only imagine how it works. Maybe the tar coats the scalp so no dandruff can escape. I'm not sure.
    It really doesn't
my Herbal Essences ';no flakin way'; shampoo reduces dandruff. its more liquid-y than my previous herbal essences ';hello hydration'; stuff. dandruff is when your scalp flakes off little pieces of skin. so maybe it's too dry and dandruff reducing shampoo moisturizes not just the hair but the scalp
    it moisturize the scalp
it moustrizez your scalp that way you dont get any MORE dandruff it doesnt eat away whats already there...

Dandruff is a mysterious ailment. Mysterious, because there is no commonly agreed upon theory about what actually causes this condition. Sure, you will read different things about its cause. It is estimated that as much as 97% of the population of the United States will at some point in their lives have a form of dandruff, but there is still a lack of total agreement about this condition....

You should try an all natural dandruff shampoo like Neem. Henna Hut carries a great one that works fast and smells wonderful! You won't find it any of your local markets, you will need to order it online and have it shipped to you but its worth it!

I love it and use it all the time.Which is the best anti-dandruff shampoo for men available in the indian market ?
it sounds to me that you do not have dandruff but you have dry scalp. they are easily confused because of the flakes.

dandruff usually looks like flakes with a more oily scalp and a hint of yellowness by the scalp.

dry scalp is very itchy, flaky some times red from irritation,

do not use target or walmart shampoos it will only mask the problem instead of help.

as we know - hair loss can be caused by many different reasons! There are many causes of loss of hair such as stress, poor nutrition ,medications, thyroid dysfunctions, illness, fungal infections, hormonal problems, to mention a few.

year ago my husband suffered very much from dandruff and hair loss too and he started trying everything you can imagine to stop his hair loss. the things that really worked for him was:

    1) Vitamin A - an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp;

    2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Good blood circulation in the scalp is important in keeping hair follicles productive. The 'B' vitamins contribute to melanin, which gives hair its healthy color and also stimulates blood circulation;

    3) massage is also beneficial. Massage stimulates circulation. As already noted, good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Experts suggest a few minutes of daily head massage by hand. Circulation through massage may be improved by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an almond or sesame oil base with massage;

    4) Try rubbing your scalp with garlic juice, Onion Juice or Ginger Juice (you can either of one out of three, Do not mix any of two or three);

    5) also he used herbal treatment - TrichoZed (do not use Rogaine - it will not work!)

It is a good product that helps prevent hair loss and contains Biotin and the clinically tested ingredients approved by the FDA to help re-grow your hair.! I think it is very important!

It worked and still works for him!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry TrichoZed but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.trichozed.info/ingredients.ph鈥?/a>

It enhances hair growth by blocking DHT (Dihydrotestostrone) - a major cause of hair loss!

    good luck!

If the flakes off your hair are dry skin you've got a dry scalp not dandruff. Use a shampoo free from Sodium Lauryl sulfate or sodium Laureth sulfate to start with. If it is really bad sometimes people find a gentle skin oil helps moisturise a dry scalp.

If the flakes are waxy it is probably dandruff. Dandruff is a fungal infection of the scalp. Something like Nizoral is good.
If something matches the strength of Segals Solutions products, go for it. This is a unique, total hair and scalp care range, ph balanced, free from harmful chemicals and delivers honestly. Nothing is as effective. Now available in India . It doesn't just get temporary relief but gets lasting results.
My suggestion is use meera herbal shampoo, if u used to a single brand shampoo for long time better continue that, I too got the same problem, but iam using head%26amp;shoulders its good. U can also keep trying. Better visit dermatalogist. Eat lot of vitamin E products thats good for hair
nizoral, apply this on scalp and leave for 5 mins and then wash off, u can also use ur regular shampoo after that to rinse ur hair the second time.. use this thrice in a week and ur dandruff will reduce, this clinically proven shampoo from Johnson and Johnson company

you need a scalp treatment and to make sure the pH of your water is at 5.0-5.5. try a water softener. for a healthy scalp, your skin needs to be ph balanced. look for pH balanced shampoos, nioxin works great, ask your hairstylist.

I have a really sensitive scalp and I can only use a few products for shampoo and conditioner. I hate the smell of Head and Shoulders. I wouldn't recommend that.

i suggest that you dont wash ur hair everyday. its the reason you have dandruf. your scalp is being dried out. plus, when you wash your hair every day, its actually damaging it buy drying it out and stripping it of its natural oils. you can still wet it in the shower of course, just dont use shampoo everyday

What happens if you put a relaxer in your hair and you've used anti-dandruff shampoo the night before?

I used an ';Africa's Best'; relaxer and I used Selsem Blue the night before, and on the box it says do not use anti-dandruff shampoo 2day before or after relaxer. What will happen? What happens if you put a relaxer in your hair and you've used anti-dandruff shampoo the night before?
You aren't supposed to wash hair at all 2 days before a relaxer. Since you used an anti-dandruff shampoo the night before, you risk having some major scalp irritation since anti-dandruff shampoo is fairly abrasive. However, you would probably feel the irritation already if it were going to happen.

In the future, read the directions before you relax your hair. You may not be so lucky next time. What happens if you put a relaxer in your hair and you've used anti-dandruff shampoo the night before?
It might aggravate your hair and cause burns. Please look over the instructions and follow them, unless you want to have severe scalp burns and need to go to the ER.

  • Non medicated dandruff shampoo safe for pregnancy?

I am 11 weeks pregnant and have a very dry scalp. It's very itchy and uncomfortable. My OB told me I can use a non-medicated dandruff shampoo. I have been using Head and Shoulders but I can't figure out if that is considered non-medicated or not. Any help?Non medicated dandruff shampoo safe for pregnancy?
I'm not completely sure, but i don't think that's considered medicated. Ask your OB. They should know. But I think a strong shampoo that SAYS medicated on it, like Selson Blue Medicated, would be what's considered medicated. But like i said, i'm not completely sure, so call the dr if you are worried. I'm sure you're fine.

What is the best anti dandruff shampoo?

i just dont know what shampoo to use. What is the best anti dandruff shampoo?
Different brands can work differently on different types of hair. I have had dandruff in the past, but i started using T-Gel (a shampoo by neutragena) and is the best stuff i have ever used! I wont ever use anything else. i now no longer have dandruff and my head isn't itchy at all. It does have somewhat of a ';medicine'; smell to it, but it is totally worth it. It comes in a box. but don't settle for a generic brand because i tried it and its not nearly as good. Also, using a vinegar rinse (apple cider vinegar mixed with water for brunettes) after you wash your hair in the shower also helps get rid of dandruff and adds shine. What is the best anti dandruff shampoo?
You can use any dandruff shampoo but it will work better if you follow this method. Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 6 tablespoons of hot water.Dab with cotton into the scalp, parting the hair with a comb.It should preferably be used at bed time. Next morning shampoo the hair. More simple remedies for dandruff at http://usefulinfo-dandruff.blogspot.com/
